Wash, synthetic Cotman brush - Winsor & Newton - no. 2

The Cotman synthetic brush for watercolors and gouache.

Cotman watercolor brushes are highly popular due to the blend of fibers of varying thickness. Thicker fibers provide durability and spring, while thinner fibers enhance color-carrying capacity. Together, they create the perfect brush.

The wash brush is a painting tool characterized by its wide bristles. It is primarily designed for applying fluid, blurred layers of paint to large areas, especially the background of an artwork. Its broad bristles allow for the swift coverage of extensive surfaces.

It is excellent for the even application of larger amounts of paint, facilitating the creation of a uniform, blurred effect. The wash brush is often referred to as a background brush, as it quickly and effectively covers areas of the painting, allowing artists to save time and achieve a consistent result.
